The Swedish government has decided to introduce border controls. For those who will travel on any of Stena Line's routes to Sweden from Germany or Denmark, this means that they have to be able to present valid identification to ride with the ferry from each country.
Valid ID is a passport or national identity card of EU Standarde that is checked at departure from the country.
ID control includes everyone who shall travel with the ferry and whether you're a driver of bus or truck or traveling as passengers with or without a car. Children who are travelling with parents are excluded from ID controls. Swedish police will control the same id document upon arrival to Sweden.
The Swedish Police have communicated that for Nordic citizens and people with a residence permit in a Nordic country it is enough with a valid Nordic driver’s license or a valid ID-card issued in a Nordic country as valid ID. Stena Line will follow these regulations concerning ID-controls.
