Unit carrying IMDG-categorized hazardous cargo are – expect for some class 7 products – acceptable on our freight RoRo vessels, subject to local port restrictions.
It is the shipper’s sole responsibility to give minimum 24 hours written advance notification to our port office/agent in port of departure with exact specifications of the cargo, to label the cargo and the transport unit in accordance with the IMDG Regulations for final acceptance of the cargo by the Line and port authorities.
We do also take IMDG cargo on our RO/PAX vessel DANA SIRENA (Esbjerg/Harwich service), but the rules are more restricted – i. e we cannot take any IMO class 1 (explosives) or class 7 (nuclear).
IMO class 7 may only be shipped after approval with our P&I club. Shipments are only in reduced quantities as part of hospital equipment or similar.
On very rare occasions it may be necessary to short ship IMO cargo, even though it is delivered within the deadline, because of stowage and segregation regulations on board the vessel. To be certain of shipment of a hazardous unit, it is advised to deliver the same prior to arrival of the vessel in Port of Loading
